popularity

"Popularity is the quality of being well-liked or common, or having a high social status."

How is it that people become popular? This is something that I have pondered many times in my life. The reason is that I have two siblings that were extremely popular in high school. I was never popular in high school, and have lived most of my life in my own level of anonymity (not popular, not unpopular). There was one month, while I was on tour, in my undergraduate degree that I was extremely popular. It was FUN! Now I have a very healthy self esteem. I can honestly say that popularity really doesn't mean anything to me, but it really was fun and I will never forget that month of popularity in my life.

The reason I am thinking about this right now is because of my sister, Alycia. She is a vibrant person, she is beautiful, she is enchanting, she is smart, and she feels very intensely. She is one of the popular ones. She started a blog when she got married and now every time she posts she gets a gazillion comments (I have seen 45 comments before). I thought it was probably people that she knew and then I found out that many of them are people who just happen upon her blog.

I would be lying if I didn't admit that I envy her comment numbers, but that is not the reason that I write my blog. I would write it if I never had any readers other that my husband.

Anyways, I am just curious about how come some people are naturally popular.

Any comments ......... (hint hint ;-)

45 comments? That's crazy. I'm probably in the same boat as you... One or two comments and I'm like "WooHoo!". I would like to say that I comment on peoples blog whenever I read though their posts but honestly sometimes I just have a minute to read and then get interupted before the commenting process begins. It is nice to feel acknowledged sometimes though.
Oh, and I can't imagine you are anything but extremely loved and "popular" where ever you go!

I agree with Mandy, you were more popular than you think you were. Also, I would say that 5 out of the 6 of you were popular in high-school. Even though Sarah would beg to differ, but then there are different types of popularity. So although Sarah is not "popular" in the same sense that Alycia, Ben & Alex were she is "popular" in the sense that very few people at her high-school don't know her and everyone who does likes her. It even surprised Alex at times when someone would say "Hi" to her and they would chat for a minute and then he would say "Do you know that person? or How do you know that person?"

I'm a big fan of your blog, Kira! And if it makes you feel better, most of the time, no one comments on my blog!

So if I get on and post 40 different comments will I make your day or drive you crazy:)? I think it is a good question you raise and I have no idea of the answer. I think Rebecca would like an answer too. You know 16, beautiful, fun girl still never been on a date....it get's to her sometimes. And I feel safe posting that since most people won't know who I am---but you do and that is all that matters.

Also, I'm somewhat shocked to hear that you have ever experienced anything but popular. I love you and thought that was the general consensus (SP?) :)

Oh Kira! I have always looked up to you. I remember sincerely wishing that I could be as pretty as you haha!
I have always thought of you as being popular. I think being popular totally depends on how you are looking at it. I know you were popular among your group of friends in high school, and your band too! I think at the end of the day being liked by your friends is what really matters. I mean, who really cares if people like you that you don't even know? You have always had friends, and that is the true blessing, and the popularity that really matters! :) LOVE YOU!
P.S. I still wish I had your body &beauty to this day!

I love reading your blog, cutie! I love hearing and seeing how you guys are doing! I rarely post on anyone's blogs, but Peter often talks about how much he loves when people comment on his posts.

Look at all the comments coming your way now. You so are popular! and I'm with Christy. I read blogs all the time, I love doing it. Especially now since we've moved. I don't get to see everyone anymore. It's my way of staying in the loop so to speak. I just don't always get the chance to comment. But yes it would be nice to see more than 1 or 2 comments. Makes you feel like you are not the only one reading your own blog. :)

I am guilty of looking at blogs and then just mmoving on, I try at least every once in a while, cause I think its funny and weird when someone comes up to you and just picks up and comments on your life and your like what? you read my blog. Really I'm pretty sure you've got a lot of fans out there and you are popular, whats not to love.

So... I snuck over to peek at your sister's cute blog and I noticed that she does giveaways... that is definitely a reason I read some blogs!

And yours is one of the blogs that I read often because I know it will always be interesting. :)

I have also noticed in the blogging world that the more comments you leave in a variety of places, the more people come and check you out too. I am addicted to blogging and reading blogs. I should probably get a life and do something productive. Like raise my children :)

See, I don't leave comments because I think the person will think...what a stalker, why is she reading my blog and commenting...because see, I'm just Eric's little sister, weirdo who likes to see how you guys are every once in a while because I've always thought you were so nice and beautiful and Justin so funny and nice. So now, you can think, hmm, people I really don't know read my blog too. Crazy Stalkers :)

Wow, are you surprised at how many people actually do read your blog?

I find it funny that you didn't think you were popular in high school. I seem to remember a steady stream of boys always coming over to our house and I remember a couple of huge parties here too. I wonder how someone who wasn't popular could be voted band president.

I do know that you were deathly shy something Alycia is not) and that is probably why you didn't think you were popular. Trust me, you were popular. We can't all be like Alycia but she is something else all together.

I have always wondered why some people are popular and some aren't. Now after six kids and fifty years of experience I still don't have a clue.

Haha I totally agree with you about all of Alycia's comments and followers :) I'm so lucky I get to call her family :) And that I was able to meet the rest of her family so I can blogstalk them as well! ;)

My blond sister is more popular than me. I think I see a correlation :)

Hello, beautiful Kira!!

If I could be popular like you, I'd like that. :) haha. Actually, I agree that there are different kinds of popular. I remember our friend Heidi whom everyone adored. Her phone rang all the time with people who wanted her for one thing or another. She certainly was cute and had style, but I think she was popular because she was the best friend one could have! Now that I have a daughter, I see an interesting perspective. There is a clear most popular girl in her school and it is entirely based on her cuteness. She is a beautiful little 10 year old for SURE. But, that girl is so rude and self-centered. I can't stand to be around her for how selfish she has learned to be. I hate to say that about someone. When I was younger, I liked being friends with the runner up popular girls. The ones at the "top" were bratty and wielded popularity like powerful royalty. The less popular girls were cute and fun and got to the parties, but were kinder. It is fun to be popular (I've had my stints here or there), but seems like unless it is based on who you are and not just being pretty or stylish, it could just incite others feeling insecure. Our friend Heidi, on the other hand was popular and just made people feel happy! Kira, you are one of the most fun, pretty, and big-hearted people out there. And Justin is right there with you. Love to you both! XO Jerami (There, now my comment is longer than the original blog! haha!)
