Braggin' Rights ... (compliments accepted)

The story begins last July when we moved to Canada. I was so bummed out because I was leaving an orchestral position and a state where my name was already established and I would get regular free-lance jobs playing my oboe. To build that in a city that you have zero connections in is REALLY hard to do!

I finally auditioned for the sub list in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra about 1.5 months ago. I was told repeatedly that I was the third call on the list. I went away from the audition happy with my performance, but really not expecting to get a call. (mostly it was just so they could know that I exist!) Well Saturday I got a call and they needed someone last minute!

I got to play in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra today!! I almost died getting to the hall though. Last night our good weather ended and we had a major snow storm! The scariest moment of the drive was I was sliding on ice toward a red light and the car in front of me was doing circles .... scary! That is in the past and I am just so excited right now. I played with the Calgary Phil! The best part was that I was pretty much on their level of playing! I expected to be a little bit intimidated, but I wasn't. Hopefully I will get called again in the future, only time will tell.

What a fantastic experience I had today! Props to me (I'll be humble tomorrow!!)

Congratulations!!!!

We will have to tell people now that we PERSONALLY know someone in the Orchestra. The kids will be happy to "brag" about this too. They take many school field trips to see the orchestra.

May we have your autograph to further our bragging rights? : D

I've tried calling you several times tonight to talk to you about it but you are not answering any of your phones!!!! So glad to hear it went well. You deserve to brag. You've worked hard. I still think you need to do some teaching as well as playing. I hope they call you more. What about some of the other cities you contacted? Do you need to continue calling them so you don't fall of their radar? Love you!

Congratulations Kira. Well done. I never doubted that you were as good as any of them. Probably better if I had to guess. Good job.

Congrats Kira on playing with the orchestra and still being alive. That was a lot to accomplish in one day! :) For reals, that is awesome that you got to show them your awesome talents. I hope so much that this will open doors for you up there.
