A Tribute to Mark

I was just informed that Mark Weiger, a renowned oboist committed suicide today.  Mark Weiger was one of the great performers in the more recent years of history.  He was clever when it came to marketing the oboe, and his humor was infectious.  He was a fun person to be around.  One of my good friends studied with him for her doctorate degree at the University of Iowa.  His death is a huge loss in the small oboe community.  My heart is heavy and my prayers are with all of his family and friends.  We will all miss you Mark.

Oh that is SO sad. I am so sorry to hear.

I was just reading the NEIGHBORS section of the Calgary Herald that comes out every THursday. (We get it early because the kids deliver the flyer papers.)

Anyway, there is an article in there that you might be interested in reading tomorrow. It's all about suicide and the survivors of it. Family members and friends who they left behind.

There is a photo of a man sitting in front of a painting that his son did before his son committed suicide. I saw this photo and the first thing I thought was....

"Those who commit suicide or think about attempting it always seem to be those who's minds are SO CREATIVE and high thinkers."

Then you posted this. It just brought back my thought again. These people are SO highly creative and so talented in the arts that we so appreciate. It's so sad. Suicide is (a mental illness) something that people should be more aware of.

Thanks for sharing. And again, I am so sorry to hear.

How sad Kira. Was it Elizabeth(BYU) that studied with him? If I remember correctly she went back that way didn't she? So sad - what a loss.
